don’t talk to me or my sun ever again

don’t talk to me or my sun ever again is an interactive, mixed-media sculpture that allows viewers to engage by adding sand to a steel plate. This interaction resonates to arrange the sand into geometric patterns. The patterns are informed by the speed, density, and temperature of solar plasma as recorded by NOAA. The raw data is cleaned and converted into audio using TouchDesigner, then outputting the audio through a surface transducer to vibrate the steel plate. Housed within a children’s sandbox, don’t talk to me or my sun ever again visualizes a powerful and destructive force of nature; namely solar plasma flares, in a nostalgic and child-like setting. Clean sine waves are distorted through the steel plate medium creating a resonant, haunting, and at times disorienting sound.
